“Speak to the entire community of Isra’el; tell them, ‘You people are to be holy because I, YHVH your God, am holy." Lev. 19:2 CJB
"Therefore, my dear friends, since we have these promises, let us purify ourselves from everything that can defile either body or spirit, and strive to be completely holy, out of reverence for God."
2 Corinthians 7:1 CJB
When I encounter new believers who have been led to keep Torah and gain more knowledge of who their Elohim is, one question inevitably pops up when we get to Leviticus; "Why do I have to know about clean and unclean?" At the very tail end of Leviticus 11, we see that after YHVH commands us not to eat certain animals and then tells us about dealing with their dead flesh, He makes the following statement, "For I am YHVH, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. Therefore you are to be holy, because I am holy." Lev. 11: 45 CJB
While being unclean is not a sin, it will make you unholy.
So many people today are fed the lie that it is impossible to be holy. They misquote and misinterpret Paul and take the Messiah's counter points against the Pharisees completely out of context. They say that it doesn't matter anymore and that God accepts us as we are. I believe YHVH calls us to Him in whatever state He finds us in, but He does not love our unholiness. It IS possible to be holy in our age. YHVH does not hand us more temptation than we can handle and He does not give us pointless and impossible commandments. The only impossible aspect of our faith is fully comprehending YHVH and His power. We are commanded to be holy and we are commanded to be pure. So how do we do it?
"He truly loves the peoples — all his holy ones are in your hand;
sitting at your feet, they receive your instruction, the Torah Moshe commanded us as an inheritance for the community of Ya‘akov." Deuteronomy 33: 3-4 CJB
"So the Torah is holy; that is, the commandment is holy, just and good." Romans 7: 12 CJB
Keeping the commandments are what gives us instruction in what is holy. YHVH did not command us to be unholy. We are to model our lives after Him. By YHVH, I also mean the Messiah Yeshua who lived the perfect and holy life. I keep hearing comments from the religious leaders of our day that tell their people that they should be more "Christ-like." Being like the Messiah implies that we should do everything exactly as He did and live our lives in a holy manner. The defeatist attitude coming from the religions of our day will tell you that you should not even try to be holy and in fact, they condemn people who try to model their lives after YHVH's Torah.
Release yourself mentally and spiritually from the influence of those who tell you that holiness doesn't matter. If you ask them they will tell you that it does matter, but they will turn around and preach against the Scripture that teaches us HOW to be Holy.
"A highway will be there, a way, called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not pass over it, but it will be for those whom he guides — fools will not stray along it."
Isaiah 35:8 CJB
