"Miryam took a whole pint of pure oil of spikenard, which is very expensive, poured it on Yeshua’s feet and wiped his feet with her hair, so that the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume."
John 12: 3 CJB
Why would a young Jewish girl have such a treasure available? Spikenard comes from India and is usually kept in a container as valuable as the perfume itself. As we find out later, this perfume was worth a year's wages and she used it on Yeshua's feet.
The answer is that this is quite possibly her dowry for her future husband. What Miryam is giving to Yeshua is not only a precious anointing, but also her entire future. She will have nothing after this with which to obtain a husband. She is sacrificing her earthly life for her Messiah. In fact, she may die unmarried because of this tremendous sacrifice.
"Whoever finds his own life will lose it, but the person who loses his life for my sake will find it." Matthew 10:39
Miryam has laid down her own life for her faith and service to the Messiah.
